The community of Fannett, Texas, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jayleigh Moralez, a senior at Hamshire-Fannett High School and a standout catcher and third baseman for the Ladyhorns varsity softball team. Jayleigh passed away far too soon, leaving her family, friends, teammates, and coaches in deep sorrow.
At just 17 years old, Jayleigh had already left a remarkable mark on the field and in the hearts of those who knew her. Standing 5’2”, she played with the strength, determination, and heart of someone much larger. Wearing jersey #12, she brought grit behind the plate and skill at third base, helping lead her team with both talent and leadership. She had been a dedicated player since middle school and proudly represented the Hamshire-Fannett Ladyhorns year after year.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Jayleigh was known for her radiant smile, joyful laughter, and kindness that touched everyone around her. She was the teammate who lifted others up, the friend who always listened, and the leader who set an example both on and off the field. Her presence was a source of inspiration, and she embodied what it meant to be a true Ladyhorn—hardworking, compassionate, and full of spirit.
Tributes have poured in from across the community. The Gladiators Softball family, where Jayleigh also played, shared their grief, calling her an irreplaceable part of their “GladFam.” The Hamshire-Fannett Athletic Booster Club remembered her as “more than just an incredible athlete—she was a leader, a teammate, and a friend whose presence lit up the field and the lives of everyone who knew her.”
Jayleigh’s legacy will live on in the memories of her family, her teammates, her coaches, and the countless friends she made along the way. Her loss leaves an empty place in the hearts of many, but the love and joy she shared will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her loving family, her teammates who considered her a sister, and an entire community who will forever carry her in their hearts.
A meal train has been set up to support the Moralez family during this difficult time, as friends and loved ones gather to honor the beautiful life of a daughter, teammate, and friend taken too soon.
Rest in peace, sweet Jayleigh. Your light will continue to shine on every field and in every heart you touched. 💙🥎💛
